Los avances de la tecnología hoy en día, se han convertido en un factor necesario para el desarrollo de la sociedad. Hasta el punto que hemos permitido que la tecnología nos maneje como títeres. Hoy en día no hay que usar mucho la cabeza para pensar y encontrar lo que buscamos, ya que todo se puede encontrar con solo presionar una tecla de nuestro teléfono.

Desde luego no todo es negativo cuando se refiere a avances tecnológicos. Hay que ser consientes que estas nuevas herramientas nos permiten hoy en día atravesar fronteras a tal grado que desde nuestro teléfono móvil podemos tener un contacto visual.

Por ejemplo, la compañía Verizon acaba de lanzar a la venta el nuevo IPhone 4. El IPhone 4 tiene varias manera de “Multitasking”. Un ejemplo es que puedes hablar con la persona y a la misma vez verla/o cara a cara.

Claro como todo el teléfono tiene un costo. Con solo $199.99 puedes obtener el IPhone 4 16GB, y si gustas mas memoria puedes comprar el 32GB solo $299.99.

Tu que piensas, crees que vale la pena pagar esta cantidad?

¿Será el inicio de un sueño o una pesadilla realmente?

“Reality Shows “, un fenómeno que ha logrado acaparar la atención de millones de televidentes a nivel mundial en la última década. Este tipo de shows tratan de vender una idea basada en mentiras, en donde las ilusiones de aquellos que sueñan con ser famosos, terminan siendo parte de una burla que solo beneficia  el Rating de un canal de televisión.

En muchas casos, este tipo de programas contratan panelistas falsos (payasos pagados), que se prestan para hacer parte del show y engañar a aquellos que creen que todo lo presentado es verídico.

Cuando atraviesan la frontera se encuentran en una pesadilla, ellos caminan varias millas en el desierto y las condiciones afectan sus energías.

Por tanta violencia padres aspiran ver a sus hijos ser criados en un ambienté lejos del camino narcotraficante. La violencia de narcóticos escala un nuevo porcentaje. Los jóvenes son vulnerables al reclutamiento de bandas criminales.

Al final los inmigrantes reconocen que existen diversos medios para alcanzar la felicidad. Con un poco de esfuerzo y dedicación todo es posible.

En ocasiones la apariencia física se convierte en una obsesión que nos puede llevar a la muerte. La anorexia se ha convertido en un enemigo que no respeta clases sociales, raza o edad. Muchos artistas se ven atacados por éste mal diariamente. Esta enfermedad no avisa, solo ataca y destruye al individuo en el momento menos esperado. Actores, músicos y hasta periodistas, ponen su vida en riesgo con tal de mantener una imagen ante sus seguidores.

Lo cierto es que en la mayoría de casos, este padecimiento no solo causa estragos físicos, pero también desordenes mentales y emocionales a sus víctimas.

Ever since the documentary “Waiting for Superman”, which criticized the public education system in America,charter schools have attracted more attention. Especially in large cities and especially in Los Angeles. Charter schools are public schools that are tuition free but are governed under a contract with the state. The contract outlines certain results that the school must produce in order to stay open. For example, in many charter schools, students have to produce certain test scores that are measured by end-of-the-year tests. Sounds, easy enough right? The catch is that if the students aren’t performing, the teachers are to blame. Teachers can be fired and schools shut down.

Charter school teachers are not offered tenure (a contract that most traditional public school teachers and college professors have that will secure a their job for life). Instead, they are held accountable for student performance and that has many teachers unions up in arms. I spoke with the President of the  United Teachers of Los Angeles AJ Duffy. He believes it is unfair to blame a students test scores on teachers. It is certainly a controversy that Los Angeles has had to take a serious look at.

So are charter schools good for the public education system in America?

The California Department of Education says education among poor and minority students is improving faster in charter schools than in traditional public schools.  Holding teachers responsible for child performance is important but to what to extent? You be the judge.

In my humble opinion, the iPad is  the best invention of the 21st century. Never has something so small and sleek allowed someone to have such quick access to hundreds of whatever it is they are searching for. I read 12 magazines, 4 newspapers, play games, check my bank account, check movie times, listen to music, check stocks and read books. I have downloaded the Kindle and already have 10 books on my book shelf. It’s a go-to guide, a recipe guide and I can watch free movies on it through Netflix. I swear, one day it will be able to cook me a burger and feed it to me.

Now I understand it is a glorified iPhone, and I won’t argue with that. But its better because you can actually TYPE with normal people fingers because the buttons can be magnified. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sent “Gow r tou?” when I meant to send “How r You?” And the huge screen. Perfect for traveling and staying up to date with current events and issues. And it fits nicely in my man purse… or satchel… or whatever it’s called. Anyway, the only downside is there is no camera which is a horribly annoying scam because they could have put them in but didn’t because they know crazy Apple people will buy the iPad 2 just for the camera.

According to surveys, The iPad is one of the number one gifts this holiday season; and deservedly so. According to CNNMoney.com, the iPad sold more than 3 million copies in the first three months of its release. Jeff Bullas’ blog also says the iPad will cause some major trends that could change the face on online networking. One point I found interesting is that people are willing to spend more money for an app on their iPad than on their iPhone. I could only attribute that to the size of the screen. People will pay more if they know they will see it clearer or bigger. The iPad has revolutionized gaming. I used to never play games– now I’m addicted to at least 50 different games; and some of these games have HD quality that is mind blowing.

I have slowly become an “Apple-head” but I promise, I will continue a healthy obsession– not an irrational one. Now, if you’ll excuse me– I just received a CNN news alert, a Facebook notification and about 12 app updates on my iPad that I must tend to. Adios.

If I haven’t gushed enough about the perfection of the iPad, well, here is Apple to do it for me.

Ahhhhh! So, no whiskey-spiked eggnog for me for me this holiday! An article in the LA Times has got me reconsidering some of my traditional holiday drink recipes.  All those holiday cocktails may ruin my skin. Studies show there are specific ingredients in Christmas drinks that can cause you to break out. Particularly the cream and the sugar. This may be common knowledge to some people but not me. I suppose I always knew sugar can cause pimples but I never put two and two together with regards to alcohol. And let me tell you– I like to get my drink on during the holidays!!

Now, I have pretty normal skin– not too dry, not too oily– but according to the article, that may not matter. Alcohol is made from sugar and sugar breaks down collagen (the elasticity agent in your skin) faster. I.E.– more sugar equals more wrinkles. Add that with all the unhealthy food you eat throughout the holidays, your skin could be hating you come January 1st.

So what to do? The article offers a bunch of solutions, all of which really take the fun out of the holidays. Like seeing drunk Aunt Sue play sloppy scrabble or cousin Jim sneak a joint in the garage. Oh, wait, maybe that’s  just my family….. In any case, I say the key is moderation. We’re good 360 days out of the year. If there are five holidays where I forget about the bad effects of fun on my body then so be it.

Matter of fact, all this holiday drinking talk has got me thinking. A drink sounds delicious right about now; and were only a week away from Christmas! Close enough. Happy Holidays!
